If you have an instance where the automatch for banking is not working and you receive this error message:

Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length

This is as a result of a narrative within a dishonoured transaction that has been supplied in the bank statement. Banks use codes and identifiers in the bank statement to identify the different transactions that appear in the statement. For example Macquarie bank places the code DC, which stands for Direct Credit, in the first 2 columns of the narrative.

But in the example that you see below. The bank account name for the dishonoured transaction was DC & TR Phillips.

This narrative is the cause of the problem. Because it is duplicitous as it is the bank holders initials but it is also the code used by the bank to indicate a Direct Credit transaction.

The solution is a simple one. Account match the offending transaction and continue doing the automatch as normal.
